Meet Digby the Digester
Not a real one, of course. Digby is the personified mascot for HoSt Bioenergy Systems’ food waste and organics digestion work in North America — a friendly, larger-than-life character built to do what technical specs and data sheets often can’t: make the process of turning food and other organic waste into renewable energy feel approachable and fun.
Getting to Know Digby
Digby isn’t a generic cartoon character. He’s grounded in HoSt’s technology; visually modeled on a HoSt organics biogas digester, with (some of) the proportions, membrane dome, and industrial details of the equipment our engineers design and build. He’s – or she, as Digby is a genderless digester... you might say they're fluid – the real thing, just with eyes, arms, and considerably more personality.
A few things you should know about him:
- He wears a yellow hard hat – because here at HoSt, safety always comes first!
- He has a porthole window on his barrel body, showing liquid activity happening inside. That’s the anaerobic digestion process, working around the clock.
- He wears a vest made of cladding that insulates and keeps him warm.
- He’s 3D rendered in a fun, classic animation-inspired style — detailed enough to be taken seriously, characterful enough to make you smile.
What Digby Represents
HoSt Bioenergy Systems has been designing and building biogas plants for over 30 years. We’ve commissioned more than 200 installations across multiple continents. In North America, our focus is on organic waste — food waste, source-separated organics, FOG, de-packaged food products — and turning those streams into biogas, biomethane, and renewable energy.
That work is serious, technically demanding, and genuinely important. Digby doesn’t diminish any of that. He amplifies it. He stands for the idea that the most powerful solutions to our biggest environmental challenges don’t have to be inaccessible or intimidating — they can be explained, understood, and celebrated.
What’s Next for Digby
This is just the beginning. Over the coming months, Digby will be showing up across HoSt Bioenergy Systems’ North American marketing — on LinkedIn, at conferences and trade shows, in educational content, and potentially as a physical figurine that you can take home from our booth.
He’ll be explaining concepts like organics digestion, co-digestion feedstocks, tipping fees, LCO2, and biogas upgrading in plain language. He’ll be making the case that food waste is a resource, not a liability. And he’ll be doing it with a smile.
