Straw and grass
Straw and grass are fibrous crop residues that digest well but are difficult to handle: they float, form drifting layers and can cause foaming. Our design keeps them in suspension so they break down fully.
How HoSt digests straw and grass
Solid material is dosed through the HoSt Mixing / Dosing Feeder or Moving Floor Feeder, and the HoSt BiomixFeeder can pre-mix it with liquid digestate into a pumpable input. Inside the tank, HoSt GiantMix paddle mixers keep fibrous material moving, prevent floating layers and support a higher dry matter content.
Why it matters
Robust mixing lets operators run lower-value residues such as straw instead of maize silage, which improves both the economics and the sustainability of the plant. Straw and grass are usually co-digested with wetter streams to keep the process stable.
