Chaff
Chaff is a light, fibrous crop residue. Like straw, it tends to float and form layers, so it needs robust mixing to digest fully.
How HoSt digests chaff
HoSt GiantMix paddle mixers keep light and fibrous material in suspension, prevent floating layers and foaming, and support a higher dry matter content in the tank. Chaff is dosed with the HoSt solid feeders and usually co-digested with wetter streams.
Why it matters
Handling fibrous residues such as chaff lets operators use low-value agricultural by-products in place of energy crops, improving the economics and the carbon footprint of the plant.
