From steel to structure: HoSt’s biogas plant in Ireland takes shape
A Milestone for Ireland's Biomethane Expansion
This facility marks another step forward in Ireland’s growing biomethane sector. HoSt is delivering one of the country’s newest biogas plants, engineered to process up to 60,000 tonnes of organic waste each year including dairy sludge and food waste, and convert it into clean, renewable energy.
Powered by advanced membrane upgrading technology, the plant will generate close to 6,000,000 Nm³ of high-quality biomethane annually, transforming local waste streams into a sustainable fuel source that feeds directly into Ireland’s renewable energy targets.
Key Components of the Facility
The project’s core infrastructure includes:
- Two primary digesters and one after-digester
- Two 120 m³ moving floors, including a blending unit
- Membrane-based biogas upgrading technology
Together, these systems create a scalable, high-efficiency solution for turning organic waste into renewable biomethane.
Looking Ahead
Ireland still holds considerable untapped potential in the biogas sector, and the country is well-positioned for continued growth in renewable energy. Unlocking that potential further will require supportive policy frameworks and expanded gas grid infrastructure to allow more biomethane producers to inject directly into the national network.
