Three major biogas facilities in Northern Italy repowered for biomethane production

13 January 2026
Three major biogas facilities across Northern Italy are undergoing comprehensive modernization and upgrading by technology supplier HoSt Bioenergy Systems and project developer Ringas. The three projects, located in Cremona and Alessandria, include the revamping and expansion of existing biogas plants into high-efficiency biomethane facilities. Construction is in progress, and completion is scheduled for June 30, 2026. The total project scope includes 20 anaerobic digesters, of which 8 new digesters will be built. The three projects will have a total capacity of 4,000 Nm3/h of biogas with an end-product of 2,200 Nm3/h of biomethane.

HoSt Bioenergy Systems will supply all digester components, flare and oxygen generators for the three sites, while Ringas will execute the feedstock systems, piping, and balance-of-plant work. Each location will also be equipped with biogas upgrading systems, delivered by Bright Renewables, to convert biogas into biomethane, contributing to Italy’s growing renewable gas production capacity.

Collaboration built on proven reliability

Ringas, founded to advance Italy’s biomethane production, selected HoSt Bioenergy Systems for its proven technology, reliability, and ability to meet tight project timelines.

“Revamping existing biogas plants requires specific know-how and flexibility that we have found in HoSt. HoSt supplies both high-quality, future-proof anaerobic digestion and upgrading solutions, making it the right partner to support Ringas’ ambitious plans.”

Advancing Italy’s biomethane ambitions

Italy has become one of Europe’s most dynamic biomethane markets, driven by national incentives and a growing commitment to renewable gas as part of its decarbonization strategy. Ringas is transforming its existing biogas sites, that currently utilize the produced biogas in a combined heat and power (CHP) system for electricity generation, into modern biomethane facilities. This ensures long-term operational efficiency and sustainability.

“We are proud to partner with Ringas in realizing these strategic biomethane projects. By combining Ringas’ strong local expertise with our advanced biogas and upgrading technologies, we are together contributing to Italy’s renewable gas ambitions and the decarbonization of the energy sector.”
Michael Ghezzi, Director HoSt Group France and Italy

With the successful implementation of these three projects, HoSt Bioenergy Systems and Ringas strengthen their partnership in delivering sustainable, circular energy solutions, advancing Italy’s journey toward a low-carbon, renewable gas economy.
