What materials are suitable as feedstock?
A wide range of organic materials are suitable as feedstock, including manure, food waste, crop residues, grass, straw, slaughterhouse waste, and sewage sludge. Liquid manure and solid manure, such as chicken manure, form the base feedstock for many agricultural biogas plants, while nitrogen-rich manures such as poultry are dosed with care and balanced through co-digestion to limit ammonia inhibition. Energy-rich materials like FOGS (fats, oils and greases) are often added in co-digestion to boost biogas yield. Industrial and municipal waste streams, including unpacked food products, de-packaged food waste, glycerin, flotation sludge, and the organic fraction of municipal solid waste (OFMSW), are equally suitable when properly prepared. HoSt’s advanced feeding and mixing technology is built to manage this broad range of biomass streams, from dense agricultural inputs to variable industrial residues, while keeping the digestion process stable.
