A biogas plant is a facility that converts organic material into biogas through anaerobic digestion: a biological process in which micro-organisms break down feedstocks such as manure, food waste, crop residues, or sewage sludge in the absence of oxygen. The resulting biogas consists primarily of methane (55-70%) and carbon dioxide. It can be used to generate heat and electricity or upgraded to biomethane for gas grid injection or transport fuel.
