Feedstock
Feedstock, also called substrate, is the organic input material fed into an anaerobic digester to produce biogas. It can be liquid, solid, or semi-solid biomass, such as manure, food waste, crop residues, or sludge, and its composition determines biogas yield (the volume of biogas, or biomethane, produced per tonne of feedstock or per tonne of volatile solids), the quality of the resulting digestate, and the design of the biogas plant.
