What are the advantages of CO₂ liquefaction?

The main advantage of CO2 liquefaction is that it turns a byproduct of biogas upgrading into an additional, sellable end-product, improving the overall economics of a biogas project. Rather than venting separated CO2 to the atmosphere, liquefaction creates a stable, transportable product with established demand across several industries, including food-grade CO2 for carbonating beverages, CO2 for greenhouse horticulture to boost plant growth, and industrial gas for welding and refrigeration. Because the CO2 is biogenic in origin, capturing and using it also supports carbon capture and circular economy goals, keeping carbon in productive use rather than releasing it directly to the atmosphere. For plant operators, this combination of an additional revenue stream and a stronger sustainability profile makes CO2 liquefaction a valuable addition to a biogas upgrading project.
