What infrastructure is needed for a biogas plant?
A biogas plant needs feedstock reception and storage infrastructure, digester tanks, feeding and mixing systems, and biogas handling equipment. On the input side, this includes pre-storage silos or concrete tanks for liquid feedstock and dosing bins for solid feedstock, alongside pumps to feed the digesters. The digesters themselves are typically insulated, heated concrete tanks fitted with a mixing system and, in most HoSt designs, a double membrane roof for biogas storage and buffering. Downstream infrastructure includes digestate separation equipment, such as a screw press separator, which separates digestate into a thick and a thin fraction, and either a combined heat and power unit or a biogas upgrading system. The upgraded biomethane can be delivered to the gas grid, compressed into bio-CNG, moved by virtual pipeline, or supplied as bio-LNG through HoSt’s partner Nordsol. Site works such as road access, the electricity connection, and the final connection to the gas grid or a heat network are arranged by the client, outside HoSt’s engineering and equipment scope.
