What is the process of CO₂ recovery?
The process of CO2 recovery starts by capturing CO2 from its source stream, either the off-gas from biogas upgrading or the flue gas from biomass combustion, before it can escape the atmosphere. For biogas plants, this typically happens as a direct output of the membrane-based upgrading process, which separates methane from CO2 to produce biomethane, leaving a concentrated CO2 stream behind. For combustion plants, HoSt’s carbon capture technology is integrated with the flue gas path of the boiler or CHP plant to capture CO2 before it is released through the stack. In both cases, the recovered CO2 is then purified to remove trace impurities and moisture, after which it can be used as a gaseous product, permanently stored, or passed on to a CO2 liquefaction system, such as the technology HoSt offers through its daughter company Bright Renewables, to be converted into liquid CO2 for storage, transport, and sale.
