What materials are suitable for anaerobic digestion?
A wide range of organic materials are suitable for anaerobic digestion. HoSt biogas plants are designed to handle animal manure (liquid and solid, including cattle, pig, and poultry manure), food waste and food processing residues, the organic fraction of municipal solid waste (OFMSW), fats, oils and greases (FOGS), grass, straw and agricultural crop residues, slaughterhouse waste, sewage sludge from wastewater treatment plants, and industrial organic waste streams. The suitability of feedstock depends on its dry matter and organic matter content, biogas/biomethane potential, and composition (N content). HoSt operates its own laboratory with small-scale reactors to assess biogas yields for specific feedstock combinations.
